The oppression against journalists in Turkey grows with each passing day. On the morning of 30 April, imc TV News Editor Hamza Aktan was detained in Istanbul before being brought to the Anti-Terror branch.

According to reports, Aktan was detained for a series of tweets he shared last year.

Hamza Aktan, who has been involved in journalism for years, has worked for the past four years as a news editor at imc TV and published a number of articles in various media outlets, earning him the reputation of a well-regarded journalist.

As DİSK Basın-İş, we regard detaining someone for a tweet to be a new attack on freedom of expression and demand the immediate release of our colleague.
